Resumen:

Los últimos años han
sido particularmente prolíferos en eventos meteorológicos y climáticos
extremos con consecuencias catastróficas, particularmente en el caso de
las inundaciones no costeras y de las olas de calor. En este coloquio se
tratarán los siguientes ítems:
- Vínculo entre desastres y eventos
climáticos extremos y tendencias.
- Las precipitaciones extremas en
Argentina, escalas e impacto sobre inundaciones de llanura y de los
grandes ríos del Litoral.

The structure of zonal jets in the
atmosphere and oceans

Andrews

Resumen:

I will discuss some fundamental dynamical properties
of atmospheric and oceanic jets, addressing, in particular, three basic
questions:

(i) what determines the separation between jets of a given
speed?
(ii) what forcing conditions lead to the formation of strong
jets?
(iii) under what conditions can jet formation occur independently
of a turbulent inverse cascade? Some applications to the winter
stratosphere will also be considered.
