indicando que la vida se inició en microformas desde el ADN, que se fueron 
agrupando, englobando y pasando a formas de tipo bacterias o virus y finalmente 
se fueron transformando en células eucariotas (que son las que tienen núcleo), y 
a partir de allí se derivaron todos los grupos que hoy conocemos. Todo esto está 
pasando entre los 3000 y los 1000 millones de años.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

materia orgánica tiene la posibilidad de fosilizar. Genera una especie de pared 
con una composición resistente a los ácidos inorgánicos, por carbonato de 
calcio, por sílice. Se ve que la célula fue probando y, en algún momento, 
encontró la veta para lograr tener una pared resistente y eso es lo que nos 
permite a nosotros toparnos con los fósiles. Incluso las esporas, que les 
permiten a las plantas reproducirse, están compuestas por esta pared 
resistente.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

tenemos unas plantas primitivas pero de un período más cercano, más o menos 400

tienen apenas 400 millones, las primeras plantas que hacen

entonces todo ocurría en el mar o vinculado con ambientes acuáticos, pero para 
colonizar la tierra tuvieron que desarrollar un sistema interno para sostenerse 
en lugar de flotar, y evitar el viento y la lluvia. Y todo eso pasa alrededor de 
los 400/450 millones de años, entre el silúrico y el 
devónico.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

las obtenían de las rocas.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

de tamaño de grano fino, normalmente llamadas pelitas y de un color negro 
oscuro, que indica que la materia orgánica se preservó. De lo contrario, si se 
oxida el material, la materia orgánica se destruye. Son resistentes a los ácidos 
pero no a la oxidación.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'"><FONT size=2>–Y acá llegamos a la parte 
más interesante: ya rastrearon y consiguieron los fósiles, que no era tarea 
fácil. ¿Qué es lo que hacen ahí? ¿Van viendo los pasos de la 
evolución?<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto"><SPAN 
style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'"><FONT size=2>–Exacto. Trabajamos sobre 
los pasos de la evolución y sobre la estratigrafía, que son dos cosas paralelas. 
La evolución tiene que ver con el tiempo y la estratigrafía se encarga de 
decirnos en qué tiempo nos encontramos, en qué momento de la historia estamos. 
La evolución va dando las pautas de cómo fue cambiando lo que sea que uno 
estudie o lo que sea de la vida a través del 
tiempo.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal 
style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto"><SPAN 
style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'"><FONT size=2>–Una cosa que siempre me 
impresionó es qué le pasa a la gente que está trabajando en estas cosas tan 
antiguas, que se maneja con escalas de millones de años y que vive su tiempo 
normal, el tiempo de todos los días. Algo parecido a lo que les puede pasar a 
los astrónomos con las galaxias a cientos de millones de años luz, o incluso a 
los historiadores cuando desentierran... en fin, ¿qué le pasa a usted con 
eso?<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'"><FONT size=2>–Bueno, debo tener algo de 
eso porque en realidad yo quería ser astrónoma y cuando hubo que elegir la 
carrera lo que me pasó es que, como no existe esa carrera en la UBA, tenía que 
ir a vivir a La Plata o tenía que viajar todos los días, lo cual era imposible. 
Entonces alguien ahí en La Plata nos dijo “ustedes tienen la carrera de geología 
en Buenos Aires, y de última puede hacer geología planetaria y se vincula con 
los planetas”. Y bueno, aquí estoy. Debatiéndome entre los dos 
tiempos.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'"><FONT size=2>–Claro. Usted llega, viene 
en colectivo, o en coche, escucha los bocinazos, cruza acá la puerta y está 400 
millones de años atrás...<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

una cosa: mi trabajo no lo hago solamente acá, sino que estoy todo el día con 
cosas en la cabeza, a veces voy escribiendo en el auto... me parece que es algo 
que no se puede cortar. Esto es una tarea que no es como la de un oficinista, 
llega la hora de terminar, uno cierra el cajón y se va hasta 
mañana.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

la revolución científica, Newton, incluso el siglo XIX, trabajaban con el mundo 
medio, con el mundo de todos los días, con la mecánica, incluso los planetas. El 
siglo XX ya es un mundo de grandes períodos de tiempo, de grandes períodos: el 
espacio científico va más allá de la célula, del mecanismo interior de la 
célula, es el mundo de lo invisible. ¿Usted siente que vive un poquitito en eso, 
en el mundo de algo que no se ve, de algo muy muy 
antiguo?<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

esta ciencia tiene dos desventajas: primero que trabaja con organismos 
microscópicos y es, por lo tanto, muy difícil de mostrar y explicar a los demás. 
No es, a simple vista, tan atractiva como los 
dinosaurios.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

sirve lo que hago. Pero por el otro lado pienso que el estudio de estas cosas es 
complementario. Yo no puedo estudiar solamente los dinosaurios si no sé qué 
plantas los acompañaron y de alguna manera los palinomorfos nos cuentan esas 
cosas. Y hay otra gran desventaja común a toda la 
paleontología.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

que ya no existe y que probablemente nadie crea necesario conocer que existió 
frente a la preocupación por resolver el problema de las sequías, de las 
plantaciones, de la alimentación, de la genética, del ser humano, del cinismo y 
la microbiología.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
